Q. What level of skill
do I need to use CourseMaker?
A. You don't need specialised skills or training to use CourseMaker,
just basic IT skills. You create your course by filling in simple
online forms. You don't have to write HTML to
create your course pages - CourseMaker does this for you and
publishes them onto the worldwide web and interactive digital
TV.
Q. Do I need to install
special software on my PC?
A. Not at all, this is a web-based system - as long as you have
a connection to the Internet and version 4.0 web browser (IE
or Netscape Navigator) - CourseMaker takes care of the rest.
Q. Who will own the copyright
of my course?
A. You own and hold the copyright of your course and you have
complete control as to who can access your course materials.
Your course is hosted by our server, but you can choose to move
your finished course to your Intranet or on a CD-ROM. Either
way, the copyright is with you.
Q. How do you define
a ‘course’?
A. An e-learning course may be interpreted in a flexible way.
You may think that your learning materials do not fall in the
category of a ‘traditional’ course. But do not worry, as long
as your course includes educational content CourseMaker is for
you.
Educational content may be information for a specific target
group that you want to disseminate via the Internet or digital
TV (e.g. health information).
Q. How large can my course
be?
A. You can make your course as large or as small as you need.
Q. Does the whole course
have to be online?
A. No, you can develop part of a course online, while delivering
the rest face-to-face; or you can develop a course that learners
access all online.
Q. Will I be able to
track my learners’ progress and scores?
A: Yes, you can choose to combine CourseMaker with our Learning
Management System: The
eLearning Place, which enables you to track your learners.
Through the administration system, you can check quiz scores
of your learners, as well as the pages they visited, the time
spent on each page etc. Similarly, learners can follow their
own progress as well.
Q. Will my learners be
able to communicate online?
A. Yes. A messageboard and a chat are automatically set up for
your course if you choose to combine CourseMaker with our Learning
Management System: The
eLearning Place. And you don’t need to program anything.
Another unique benefit of our system, distinguishing it from
other products, is that your learners are able to communicate
seamlessly across different platforms, e.g. a learner on a PC
can chat to another learner using digital TV.
Q. The course will be
available through the Internet. Can I control who has access
to the course?
A. Yes, completely. You can set up the course access through
the administration system with our Learning Management System:
The
eLearning Place. If you don’t want everyone to access the
course, you just choose manual registration, which means that
every time someone registers on your course, the system sends
you an email. You can then decide whether you want to accept
or reject the person on your course. You can also make your
course ‘public’ by setting up automatic registration
Q. What if my organisation
wants to use its own layout, which ties in with our existing
brand/identity?
A. No problem. We can create a customised layout, exclusive
to your organisation, by arrangement.
Q. What about hosting?
A. CourseMaker includes a managed hosting
service. You'll be able to access advice and guidance, as well
as plenty of useful information about your website, including
statistics about how your course is performing.
Q. How easy is it to
maintain and update a course with CourseMaker?
A. It's very straightforward. If, for example, your organisation
changed some content details, these can be edited and published
onto the Internet or digital TV in a matter of minutes.
Q. Once I've published
my course, how do I know my target audience will find it?
A. As you create your course you can enter keywords for each
page. People entering those terms into a search engine will
match these search terms with the keywords you have submitted
for your course pages. CourseMaker uses a powerful search engine
submission service - SignPost
to help promote your course.
Q. Can I include sound
and video in my courses?
A. Yes, you can include sound and video files in your course
if you wish - just remember to keep the files small as the course
may be viewed by learners with slow Internet connections. |
